This is the sound of a 98cc sachs engine of a 1938 light motorbike. It is one of the bikes in my private collection. The sounds reflect the fuel cock switching, flooding of the carburettor, sucking of the cylinder and two tries to bring the engine to life. The sound in between is the clutch lever. The engine is started by pedaling the bike on its stand. Main engine run features idle to half throttle open. The engine is eventually stopped by using the decompression lever which you can hear at the end. This is a true recording of the actual item.

It's the 80s and i'm about half-way through making a punk/new wave party mix tape when my turntable starts repeating itself. Unwilling to to back and re-record the mix, i batted the needle around on the record for half a second and stopped the tape. This is the part that isn't recognizable as "hey, st. Peter!".

I live on a lake and this is what my back patio sounds like every night. They live in the branches of the weeping willow trees that dip down to the water. The sound starts with one frog, then a few join in, and soon there as a chorus of them on all ends of the lake in all tempos going at once. Then when a crescendo is reached, they all start to stop one by one until it's silent again. But the silence only lasts for minute, and then the cycle repeats. Bells ring to mark the start of evening mass at notre-dame cathedral (notre dame de paris) in paris, france on christmas day in 2011. The first bell heard is the largest, the "emmanuel" bourdon bell, which weighs 13 tons. After 90 seconds or so, the other bells in the north tower start to ring as well. After several minutes of continuous ringing, the bells are allowed to slowly stop ringing. A few soft clicking noises right at the start of the recording come from me adjusting the recording level (which i couldn't do until the bells started to ring). Mp3 from 96 khz / 24-bit / stereorecorded with zoom h4n built-in mics hand-held, about 100 feet southwest of the south tower (the one with the big bell).

Very clean recording of an ice cream truck outside, playing joplin's "the entertainer". I started and stopped and awkward times since we were in between takes, but if you have sound skills, its easily loopable. While on set in downtown la, an ice cream truck visited our crew. Trying to start a 1983 volvo 245 after a stop at a gas station. First we hear the seatbelt warning signal after the driver turns the ignition on. The first start attempt fails. The two following attempts fail because the starter fails to engage with the flywheel, creating a very loud and unpleasant sound. There is some reverberation from the metal roof of the gas station. At 00:24, the driver remarks "he's doing it again!". The fourth attempt succeeds in starting the engine after a rather long cranking. We then drive off and we also hear some squeaking from the steering wheel. Throughout the recording we hear breathing noises from the driver (80 year old man, smoker). The recording was made in the front passanger seat with the window open, that's why there a very noticable difference between the left and right channel. Front channels of a 4ch-surround field recording of the interior of a german local commuter train, completely without human voices, heading from the towns of naumburg to weissenfels. The train is in full motion at the beginning of the recording, then stops, with squealing brakes and all, then starts up again and reaches full velocity. It's me saying some words. I've recorded my speech and then used ardour's (http://ardour. Org) looping funtionality (which have proven to be rock-solid) to perform theese glitches. I used my mouse to select random ranges in the session, then used the "]" key to set tre selected region as a loop range. And also used "l" key to start looping if i accidentaly clicked on the playhead (which makes it stop playing). I also used space bar to break the loop into normal playback. There was a limiter in ardour. Recorded the performace using jack_capture cli program. I cut out some silence using audacity and converted the recording to flac.

It was time to mow the lawn, and it was a beautiful day for mowing. 80 degrees and sunny. Not much breeze at all. For the production: i took the zoom h1 out and set it by the porch about 2 feet up off the ground. Recorded at 96k 24bit. The low cut and agc were disabled. Once recorded, i finished it off with a small amount of airwindows "air" with the 22k tap opened all the way up. For the mower: i used a 21 inch 140 cc "550ex" series briggs & stratton gas walk behind push mower. When i finished mowing my yard, i approached the recorder up to about 2 feet, then i cut the engine. I start it again and let it idle in close proximity for about 8 seconds, still at a distance of about 2 feet, then cut the engine one last time. I'm sure this could potentially come in handy for those outdoor scenes where you could use some distant neighborhood activity or a close-up start/stop. Enjoy!.

An excerpt from some in-car driving recordings i made with the windows wound down. My starting point is geotagged. I first turn right out of trail ridge court in streamwood, il, then wait to turn left at the intersection of schaumburg road and south sutton road. I then head north on il route 59. The car is a 1996 chrysler lhs 3. 5l v6 (note the recognizable sound of the creaky chrysler transmission as i slow to a stop). My recording setup was two audio technica at851a boundary mics, mounted upside down on the interior roof and facing out of the driver and passenger windows (with appropriate wind protection), running through a mixer into a zoom h4.

An enjoyable trip back to my childhood. . . Way before cell phones and the internet. Summers were enjoyed walking on the gravel alleys looking at the beautiful, mature trees in my own little corner of the neighborhood. Does this return you to your childhood?. A nice capture of those beautiful chimney swifts twittering above -- a true signature of summer -- occurs at 38 seconds in, then again at 2:24. The typical hum of central air conditioning units is ever present throughout. From 2:11 to 2:27 i stop and you can hear the hum of these units getting louder. At 2:44 a dog barks in the distance. Then, at 4:16 i leave the gravel alley and start walking on the grass, the, at 5:06, up the big, concrete front steps. Recorded at 7:45pm on the evening of wednesday june 12th 2019. Zoom h4n 2018 - onboard microphones. This recording is 17 full minutes of ambiance from inside an in-n-out fast food restaurant. This in-n-out is located in downtown burbank, california located at 761 n 1st st, burbank, ca 91502. The great thing about this recording is that it's free of all music that would invalidate the recording due to copyright restrictions. In-n-out, unlike other fast food chains, does not allow music in their dining rooms. This is because most in-n-out locations are so busy and constantly loud, the addition of music would create an unbearable sense of mayhem. So, rest assured you may use this ambiance in your project with no restrictions!. The beginning of the recording starts during a busy lunch hour. Or 12 sets of 6/8 at 5s per bar with a total length of 60s. Filters:hipass pumped at 60hz, -5db. Lopass pumped at 1200hz at -6db. Delay set to 0. 05s at 600hz with a 60% wet mix. Arranged with the tonic 5th as a constant with the last (fifth) 5th in the circle, starting and ending with the tonic. Second 5th enters in 5s, third in 15s and the fourth in 25s as the fifth stops. The fifth 5th begins to fade back in after 10s of silence, which begins the process of the second, third and fourth fading out in that order. The fifth 5th is at full volume as the loop turns, as is the tonic. The mood changes noticeably as each consecutive 5th begins, and changes again as the following 5th joins the loop.

I recently contributed a track to a triple lp set of krautrock cover versions ("head music 2", released by fruits de mer records, december 2020). The song i chose to cover was kraftwerk's "autobahn". If you know the track, you'll know that it uses synthesised traffic sounds alongside recordings of the same. On my version, i achieved these in three ways:. 1) i downloaded some public domain traffic sound effects from elsewhere here on freesound. Org (thanks, guys!). 2) i got in my car with my zoom recorder and made my own recordings of the engine starting, stopping, etc. 3) i made my own sound effects using virtual synths and effects in ableton live 10. This particular sound falls into the third category. Let me stress that while the song "autobahn" is copyrighted, these are isolated sound effects and are not covered by copyright. I'm making them available here under a public domain licence. If you download and use any of these samples, please let me know in the comments what you did with them. I recorded the last part of my travel to work, the first day after my vacation. Inside the train my recording equipment (soundman digital recorder dr2) generates a lot of digital noise – more than usual. Interesting. Therefore i upload from when the commuter train stops at gothenburg central station and the doors open and i walk away from the station. The digital noise is there all the time but just less audible. In the beginning of the sound file you hear the noise clearly. Don’t buy this little recorder… (it has a sigmatel recording chip. ). In the frequency analysis, and spectral view, i notice peaks at about 800 - 950hz, 7850 - 8350hz and 16100-16450hz. I guess this is part of the digital noise. Tried to eq this away with spectral edit. This did not improve the sound. The noise has a wider spectrum. Tried to download the “latest” firmware at www. Soundman. De. Had to open command prompt and use unzip to extract the files. What?! but the firmware downloader does not detect the “device”. I doubt there is a new firmware anyway. The year for this recording, according to the recorder, is 2002…. The recording starts about 07:50 monday, august 07, 2017. I took 2 seconds from the beginning of this file and used paulstretch. Resulting in a 20second digital noise drone, “dr2 digital noise”,https://freesound. Org/people/gis_sweden/sounds/399075/had a thought that i could use a file like this to cancel out these frequencies from the other file with an inverted digital noise file… but i cant invert frequencies – off course :-d.

This is the audible annunciation found at all intersections with traffic lights in paris, france. It announces the condition of the traffic lights for pedestrians who are blind or with impaired vision. The annunciation is turned on by pressing a button on the traffic light pole. When the crosswalk sign is red (do not cross), the recorded annunciation is always "rouge piéton" ("red light, pedestrian"), followed by the name of the street that the crosswalk crosses (in this case "rue d'antin," the quiet side street where i recorded this). This repeats over and over until the crosswalk changes to green, at which point there is a two-second trill tone followed by a repeating bell tone. The bell tone is one bell, followed by two bells, repeated four times, followed by a very brief pause, and then the sequence is repeated again. This continues until the crosswalk changes back to red, at which point the "rouge piéton" message resumes. The annunciation continues for at least one cycle of the traffic lights and then stops, unless the button is pressed again. The audio quality of the annunciation is very poor even in real life (it sounds like a wax cylinder recording or something), and can be difficult to understand. This recording accurately captures the poor quality of the annunciation. The volume of the annunciation is also adjusted dynamically based on ambient noise, so there is a slight change in volume on this recording as the system apparently reacts to noise from traffic or something. There is a weak background noise that sounds like some sort of machine, but it wasn't coming from the traffic light and i don't know the source. The recording starts with the crosswalk red, then at about 18. 3 seconds it changes to green, then it changes back to red at about 53 seconds. A car passes at around 48 seconds. Recorded with a zoom h4n, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, built-in mics, from about ten inches below the tiny speaker in the crosswalk sign housing.

Recorded in my dad's bedroom with lifecam hd3000 webcam. This is a much better recording than my previous oxygen concentrator file, as i hauled my desktop into the bedroom at the other end of the apartment where the machine now is, when i was home alone. At the end of the first half of the cycle, there is another valve position change so that the air from the compressor is directed to the 2nd cylinder. Part way through the second half of the cycle there is another valve position change to vent the gas in the first cylinder back into the ambient atmosphere, keeping the concentration of oxygen in the pressure equalizing reservoir from falling below about 90%. The pressure in the hose delivering oxygen from the equalizing reservoir is kept steady by a pressure reducing valve.
